Power is off and I'm about to modify my switchboard. Wish me luck
Replacing the old RCD and overcurrent breakers for combination units to free up some space in the panel. This is the bit where I don't want to get the nuetrals mixed up or I'll be tripping breakers all over the place
@Ex_spurt yeah RCBOs are so good, we had them installed during our main switchboard upgrade from 1980’s vintage breakers and no RCD
@jpm I had two seperate RCDs taking up all the spare space in the panel because the previous owner had to up grade it to sell the place and naturally went with the cheapest option
@Ex_spurt of course. This house has never had a separate RCD, we entirely skipped over it by getting RCBOs on every circuit in the upgrade, and it didn’t have one at all when we bought the place.
@jpm in WA you don't have to retrofit earth leakage protection to your own house but you can't transfer the title to anyone else unless you do. It's built in to the property conveyencing regulations.
Having been hooked up on an unexpectedly live cable as a young bloke, watching the world go dim and thinking this is how it ends, I was very happy that mining regs back then had earth leakage of sorts well ahead of domestic supplies. All my places had them after that
