40 years ago today, I rode my bike on dangerous highway 17 between Dryden and Upsala, via Ignace.
Another traumatic day with trucks coming at me while overtaking RVs on this narrow 2 lane no shoulder country road that acts as the Trans Canada.
217km in 10 hours 50 miniutes average of 20.0kmh and max speed of 55.7kmh. 1 flat, 2 broken spokes.

Note the microwave tower, still omnipresent in Canadin telecom in 1986.
In fact a couple of payphones along the road were connected via antenna to some of those towers.
@jfmezei there are still some here and there around Vancouver. I wonder what they are doing?
@timbray Microwave towers still used here and there to serve remove locations. Some islands may not yet have fibre. Also, cell towers often rely on microwave trunk relays though this is going away because microwave links don't provide the capacity people expect for internet access.
