Gare du Nord's WiFi casually discriminating against the super-centenarians.
@Edent ah Mr No No! It has been far too long, we really should catch up. Sincerely, Mr Asdf Asdf
@Edent
Avoiding Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery's absolute hogging of the bandwidth.
@Edent Looks like it is not the only discrimination ! 🤣
@Edent No wifi for all those old vampires.
@Edent 🎶 No no no no no no, there's a limit! 🎶 - To coin 2 Unlimited.
@Edent bit of a nitpick but I like nitpicking:
"Super-centenarian" is 110-120, not 120+. Afaik there actually isn't a word for 120-130 since it's only been achieved once in all of recorded human history (Jeanne Calment)
@Selvari21106 hmmmmm.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercentenarian lightly disagrees.
Tell you what. If either of us reach that age we can settle the argument 😆
@Edent To be fair, the world's oldest person is currently 116, so they have at least 4 years to fix this
@Edent The other extreme exists...
@Edent Also women and non-binary people, with those title choices 😬
@Edent I used to work with a developer who tracked the recorded oldest person alive and updated the validation everytime they... umm.. every time there was new oldest person alive
@tommorris ah, but Herr Doktor No or Frauline Doktor No?
@Edent I added a similar validation in Smithereen (birth year > 1900) having done my research to confirm that there's no one currently alive who was born in the 19th century.
It's important that you put the limit on the birth date itself though. Don't limit the age like these people did because then this system will have to be updated when we achieve longevity escape velocity.
@grishka why though?
What does it matter if someone enters a preposterous date of birth? What if someone creates an account for their pet Giant Tortoise?
@Edent Smithereen is a federated Facebook-style social network, so the intended use case is that real people create accounts for themselves with their real names and whichever other information they decide to fill in about themselves.
What really drove me to do it was that one of the users on my server did this (it's also themselves in their own relationship status):
@Edent If Lego can make a change to accommodate Attenborough, then surely the French can make an effort.
