@researchfairy whole thread feels like maybe you've heard these things first-hand.
@researchfairy plenty of Australian fundies with a similar attitude. I had the misfortune to know one who I engaged with and forced to follow through the logical consequences of her beliefs, backing herself further and further into a corner until she snapped and yelled, “Who cares about the world, God’s going to blow it up anyway!”. And THAT, I responded, is ultimately the basis of all your belief.
@researchfairy zero lies detected. Still, incredibly depressing.
Was picking up litter off the beach. Lots of small polystyrene bits floated down by floods. Caught at the high tide line.
A couple came over and started asking questions.
Then used similar reasoning to change the topic to try to convert me to their religion.

@researchfairy p sure you're getting the casualty/chronology backwards here
@researchfairy I just read a Wikipedia article about early Christian martyrs (like... 200-300 CE, I think) and how authors of the time potentially heavily exaggerated the persecution, and I thought to myself: wow, these people have been whiny since the beginning.
@researchfairy "I prayed to God to give me a bike, but was told that's not how it works. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness."
