Anacé Indigenous People Halt Construction of TikTok Data Center in Brazil

Last Tuesday (9), the Anacé Indigenous people occupied the construction site of the data center belonging to Omnia, a service provider for TikTok.

Located in the coast of Ceará state, the project has been the target of a series of complaints from the community, which has been mobilizing for months against what it considers a violation of its territorial and environmental rights.

In an interview given in September 2025, Chief Roberto Anacé denounced the fact that the data center was being built without prior, free, and informed consultation, in violation of the rights guaranteed by the ILO and the Federal Constitution. “A data center consumes an enormous amount of water and energy, which can directly affect our traditional territories, rivers, aquifers, and biodiversity.”
