Yesterday, I started to migrate things off of Aman, my ancient Debian server to a new one in the homelab.

Today, I'm going to migrate more stuff off of it, aiming to leave only mail, xmpp, and my brother's websites there - those need at least a day to deal with each, on their own.

The next service to migrate is this very GoToSocial instance, so I'm gonna take this offline for a few hours until I copy the data over.

Hrm, hrm. What to do, what to do. Should I deploy my new homelab server to replace Aman with? And start migrating stuff off of there?

Okay, this wasn't so bad. Only took an hour and a bit!

Though, I did copy ~30GiB of S3 data over last night, that certainly helped.

Now, some parts of this setup aren't ideal.

Garage's data is on BTRFS, instead of something like XFS. This is because BTRFS makes backups reasonably easy, and I have next to no experience with XFS. I'm willing to accept the overhead for the convenience I gain.
GoToSocial is talking to S3 via https, instead of through a local http, because Garage doesn't support anonymous access yet. I could solve this by telling GtS to proxy instead of using signed URLs, but... eh. I like the signed urls. Makes me feel Professional™.

@algernon ohhh, you trust btrfs more than I do for sure... I just put ext4 on top of lvm raid with integrity -- old boring tech that is no longer hungry for your data
