Using AI-generated imagery for your blog posts adds a lot!
- people will get rightfully angry with you
- it distracts from what you have to say
- you’ll get unfollowed and blocked
- you’ve wasted time, energy and probably money to shit on your own work
@thomasfuchs I *do* use AI generated imagery on my (friend's) blog!
But that's because I jump right in the "AI imagery can't be copyrighted" thing and it's frequently hilariously bad, so win-win in my eyes
@thomasfuchs I don't add any kind of images to my texts. The text should speak for itself. Why do people nowadays think everything needs some image?
I do, however, generate AI art just because I like it. Especially when it's weird and full of strange artifacts and doesn't make any sense, looking like a weird electronic fever dream.

@thomasfuchs It's helpful in that it tells me the blog isn't worth my attention.
@thomasfuchs I know the point here is about AI, but I kinda feel similarly about stock images for blog posts, too. All text would be far preferable to me than a useless image of some lady with glasses working on a laptop. The image actually detracts from the post.
If the blog post is about DOOM, then an image of John Carmack adds information to the post. If it's just filler (AI or not) then better not to have it.
I just skip posts with an obviously AI or stock image.
@matsuzine Agreed. I don't get the obsession with having images all over blog posts. You can just have the words and people can just read the words, and it works. No need for images, except when the image actually has something to add to the topic. Otherwise, blogs aren't videos, there isn't a requirement to fill a run time with something for people to look at. Get the stock images off the page.
@mjc0961 the "obsession" often comes from the fact, that blog designs don't look well without images. And there is also this whole SEO horoscope thing, where we believe that og:image is required (although it is probable that people tend to click less on link without image in preview on social media, if someone cares about that) @matsuzine
@katafrakt Perhaps the solution is to fix the blog designs so they look fine with only text, rather than to go find a bunch of pointless stock images to kill the pacing of the post with.
@thomasfuchs I’ve had a number of ideas for posts that would lean heavily on very specific visuals to convey the idea/humour.
Every time, I know I could have that specific image available in seconds by just using AI.
Every time, I don’t. I work around the lack of visuals or just don’t use the idea at all. It’s really, REALLY not that hard to just not use AI.
@thomasfuchs if someone used AI art in their blog post then you have to assume they used it to generate the text and I’m not going to waste my time reading text they couldn’t be bothered to write.
