When the AI collapse comes, it will be like an earthen dam failing. First a few drips and dribbles break through. The Billionaire CEOs will say those are normal. Then the drips will become small streams. The CEOs say not to worry, they'll adjust their models and all is well. Then the streams get bigger, chunks of the dam start to break loose. The CEOs are unavailable for comment. And then the entire dam collapses as millions of gallons of water flow out to destroy everything in their wake, as investors pile up enormous losses from their AI investments, dragging the economy further down with it. And it all starts with those few drips and dribbles ...
@lauren It's already begun - OpenAI shut down Sora, Github moving to usage based billing, Uber blew through it's 2026 AI budget in 4 months and COO is questioning whether it's worth it. Open questions and massive pushback on data center deals.
Dunno how long it'll take for the full collapse, but it's coming.
@lauren Thankfully, many towns have wised up and paused or blocked data centers. That happened much faster than I imagined.
@lauren but we can patch it 😬
@lauren the corpo CEO's will be hiding out in the fortresses that they've built for themselves.
@lauren And the eventual bailouts... We'll see how it compares to 2008
@lauren AI reminds me more of the San Francisquito Dam collapse. The foundations were always known to be improper, but the project went ahead until it killed 400+ people.
We *know* AI is a bubble, that it is built on flawed concepts, and that it can't possibly do the job it's being asked to do. We also know that there are lethal downsides, and that regulation of AI is being rejected by the US Government. Yet we're going full-speed ahead, destroying the economy and the ecology at the same time.
