@paul @stefano YES. To be fair, that's not entirely a systemd thing, that's just... Well it's sort of like the giant papier mache figurehead of a parade float, I suppose. The most obvious part, but not the whole thing.
My point is, there are a *lot* of devs these days who neither grok nor care about the unix philosophy. They find it inconvenient at best, and directly opposed to their goals of tightly integrated vertical stacks all too frequently.
It makes me SAD as well as frustrated.
@paul @stefano to be fair, this is an inevitable follow on effect from Linux going mainstream. The unix philosophy is something that engineers designing for fellow engineers value, as a society.
Linux distros aren't really being produced by engineers for engineers much anymore. They're commercial products built by companies for customers who will pay. The engineers aren't on *either* end of that transaction anymore, so the product isn't tailored *to* engineers anymore.
