@yoginho In one of your lectures during Covid, you pointed that lambda calculus could have such a self referential diagram.
And then you pointed that you cannot know the exact original conditions or the history of the organism, thus you cannot know its current "state".
Isn't that more accurate?
I didn't properly understand the self-manufacturing nature of living systems back then yet. In particular, the difference between recursion (Lambda is just the same as classical Turing computation) and collective impredicativity (the fact that living processes literally co-construct) each other, which is neither mere cybernetic feedback nor recursion (as the term is used in computer science).
These are different categories of self-referentiality.
Collective impredicativity explains why you don't get a well-defined state space when you try to model a living system and its whole behavioral and evolutionary potential. It is not possible to formalize such a system completely, because you *cannot* define that state space in advance.
In recursive systems, it is hard to do analysis, but they are 100% formalized, so you can characterize their state spaces. The problem is just practical tractability.
