For those of you who manage #WordPress sites, how long do you wait before doing a major point update?
@podfeet That really depends on the site.
But for most clients:
- never before the first point release
- after I have checked all the changes for potential issues and unwanted changes (like the AI stuff in 7.0) I need to handle first
- all tests are green
- the client has signed off the changes on the staging site
@podfeet I also just backup and run the update.
@podfeet I test it asap on a few sites I know well and won't have a big impact in case something goes wrong. Then I wait until the next day, monitor support forums, error logs etc. and if no major issues are reported, I'll update the rest of the sites.
WordPress 7.0 was installed on the 330 sites I manage within 24 hours and no issue has been reported yet by any of my clients.
@podfeet TBH my host Rocket.net does it for me on most of my sites.
@podfeet TBH, I live on the edge and do most of them right away. But I always have a backup ready. 😉
@podfeet Warten? Es ist automatisiert.
@NickBohle Not in my experience for a major point upgrade.
@podfeet Okay, I might have clicked update and left the screen.
