One company automating people away can be a competitive advantage.
All companies automating people away destroys the demand as nobody has an income to buy anything anymore.
The only solution for this is a market that is driven and bound by social norms and contracts. Like taxing the rich, automation tax or basic income ...
Or only build things that actually have a demand not like "AI" where demand is artificially created after the fact.
Note that many companies often prefer to pay for "AI" instead of human beings, even when "AI" delivers worse results.
They don't see employees as humans, they see them as "investment"—and in their sad twisted minds "AI" is a better investment.
It's because they can literally own a part of "AI" but human slavery or serfdom is illegal.
@thomasfuchs there’s also the issue with tech workers that our salaries can’t be written off in the tax year they were paid anymore … they have to be amortized. That doesn’t help our cause much either.
