@Transbian_Arsonists3@transfem.social there are different styles of tai chi they are often named after the family name of person who invented them, eg 'yang style tai chi' or 'wu style tai chi' its commonly agreed that chen style is the oldest style however it is more like an intermediate step in the development, its kinda like a half tai chi half kung fu, as it does not contain all the elements of tai chi, even some of the movements are similar to red fist kung fu some guy in china did a phd analysing the similarities but its only in chinese, in english you can read about some of the main points in his thesis only in random book paragraphs and magazine articles, during the cultural revolution in some areas of mainland china people were forbidden from practicing the forms as it was viewed as a traditional practice that held back progress, in other areas it was fine, eg wu family had formerly been very wealthy owned a lot of herbal dispenceries (fun fact the bought herbs from chen village of chen style tai chi, and employed yang lu chan of yang style taichi, and sent yang to chen village to learn more, or some say steal the secrets) anyway after the revolution wu family managed pharma factories and their employees did tai chi every morning before work even through the cultural revolution will you pound me now ๐
