The global empire that america is part of is neo liberalism, which is much more widespread than just that one continent. Hopefully the whole rotten thing will collapse, but we need to make sure that the earth and her populations are protected from the fallout.

Empires do not collapse the same way. Western Roman Empire involved military fragmentation, fiscal strain, political instability, migration pressures, & administrative breakdown, not just "comfort." The USSR collapsed thru economic stagnation, legitimacy crisis, nationalist fragmentation, & reform spirals. The British Empire declined thru war costs, decolonialization & geopolitical realignment.
