It's not air friction that makes the space capsule hot when re-entering the atmosphere.
It's the pressure wave building up in front of the capsule, compressing the air, until it behaves like plasma.
They also prefer a blunt tip instead of a sharp one. This will keep most of that plasma in front, instead of heating up the entire capsule.
