The updated EHRC guidance has finally been published – at 4.40 pm on the Thursday before a bank holiday weekend, if you want an indicator of how desperate Labour is to bury this one. (Publishing at 4.40 pm on the *Friday* would be too obviously cynical even for them.)
The Telegraph was spinning this as an outright bathroom ban this morning. Hard to see how the EHRC would square that with judicial decisions since last April. In any event: my recommendation (based in part on my therapist's advice a couple of weeks ago) is:
1. DON'T PANIC
2. Wait a day or two to see how reliable, pro-trans experts are analysing the guidance – groups like TransActual, individuals like Nonbinary Barrister, who'll tell it straight but without catastrophising. Good Law Project, too, though they are prone to hyping things up a bit to drive donations.
3. Look out for protest actions you can participate in. I imagine this page on TransActual's website will be seeing a lot of updates in the next few days: https://whatthetrans.com/compilation-of-protests-against-the-supreme-court/
My therapist's other advice was:
1. Log off any social media networks that are activating you.
2. Go outside, touch grass, BREATHE, etc. etc. Find something pleasant and fun to do.
Whatever happens, we need to make sure Labour is never, ever allowed to escape the reputational ruin and shame of being the party that imposed trans segregation on the UK. If this is a bathroom ban, it's *Labour's* bathroom ban, and we should never let them forget this. One post I saw pointed out that Labour is to the right of the *literal Vatican* on this
