i am 5:00 into 'mercury dripping down my spine' and it's musical satire of the tedious middle track in movie soundtracks that you always hit in between the anthems, but exactly like the rest of what eric andre is so good at, never for one second does it let on that it might be a joke. and not even "at the same time," but the whole thing that makes that joke land, is that it isn't actually tedious, it's just a reference to tedium.
like you can imagine him begging some extremely serious music critic to sit down on their listening couch and spread their thumb and forefinger at a broad angle over their chin to ~ consider it ~ but then the joke is actually on the person who laughs at them because there is absolutely no difference between what should be taken seriously and this because it's so well done.
