It occurs to me that when I look at the introductory compsci videos which have been coming out fairly recently... There seems to be a bias towards Computer Graphics!
I explain this by saying:
1. It films well, we can animate how these algorithms generate images.
2. Its familiar, most people have at least dabbled with implementations of these algorithms. Or seen others do so.
3. It covers a wide swath of Computer Science, due to how much data they necessarily generate!
@alcinnz My broad take is that stuff about computer graphics and 3D is a kind of revisionist erasure of its actual practice and history. For example, show me the CG compsci videos that don't conspicuously leave out Star Trek and gopherVR.
@screwlisp I wouldn't say the videos I have in mind contradict you!
In that they focus on the mechanisms rather than the (perceived) history.
@alcinnz though if we consider ploughs and farming, it would be odd to suddenly start leaving out some of the most famous (!) and celebrated 1980s ploughs, simply because they weren't manufactured by the dominant vendor de jour.
@screwlisp You're being too vague for me to judge whether your complaints still apply.
