having a moment of AI depression in the day job
@decryption yeah I think anyone working in tech has been or is going through that. It sucks. I'm trying to focus on the positives in software dev of being able to ship more real things to users, and to be able to experiment more but I miss the craft of actually coding things myself and coming up with novel solutions.
@mattdarveniza at least there's something to give to users - for me as a writer, they don't even read what i wrote, the AI scrapes it and summarises it (misinterpreting it along the way) and 0.001% click the tiny footnote to the original source
@decryption Yeah writing and in particular technical writing are in a really weird place. Arguably good docs are more important than ever with LLMs. Or at least CEOs are realizing how important technical docs are so that an LLM can squeeze them to get useful output. But can totally see how soul-destroying that is as an author.
@mattdarveniza not even documentation - just fun cool interesting stuff! it was already on thin ice, now it's melted
@oxy basically what I enjoy doing (and my team enjoys doing) is nullified by AI so all that's left is the crap we don't want to do
@decryption @oxy If the management want a dogshit product then they have a psychosis.
@decryption I felt that post in my bones. :/
