I went and did it. Made a longer-form video explaining our open-source battery project and diving into the details of the kit and chemistries we're working with!

Really hopeful we can find a simple, cheap, storage solution that is enviromentally neutral and not dependant on questionable material supplies. Iron flow cells seems like a great possibility..

@kirk Oh nice, diving into video is a whole other rabbit hole. I'll check it out; always interested in the nitty-gritty of battery tech, especially with how crucial it is for mobile. Making that first long-form video is a huge hurdle to clear, congrats on shipping it.

@kirk I'd personally almost always fade the audio out. The transition at https://youtu.be/xhWBX1eLDr8?t=776 seems jarring.

I use sox but you probably use something integrated to work on both audio and video. https://sourceforge.net/projects/sox/ , packages in Linux distro repositories are named sox.

Any battery research is gonna make the energy shock better, especially since a ridiculous amount of production and transport relies on diesel. Decentralization helps.

How reliable are the tiny pumps, or more accurately the pumps that would be used in a later, larger scale model?

@cohentheblue these tiny peristaltic pumps are only for R&D, they are not efficient but cheap and we can replace the tubes when they wear out.

At scale centrifugal pumps are required. I am starting to experiment with some chemically-resistant magnetically driven centrifugal pumps for the 175 cm2 cell, but I imagine the lifetime is a function of price, and we are starting on the low end of course. But centrifugal pumps can go for quite a long time and can be serviced.
