Beckenham relays done and DONE! 166 teams. 3 legs (which made running a bit difficult JKS!). Forgot it is quite difficult and there is a bastard hill followed by a nice run finishing with a bastard hill. But I reckon I did much better than last year and it was really buzzy and fun, even though I got the name of my teammate confused with someone with a NEARLY IDENTICAL NAME, and leapt out in front of a bunch of runners before realising it wasn't my handover and nearly derailing a crowd of runners and causing a massive pileup. 👍😂
But I did it and it was a laugh and it was quite life-affirming, even though virtually all the teams are ultra-serious club runners and my club are...... not. We're the only vets club that competes, so we are *always* first in our category. 😎
Some of those guys are super-impressive though. The winners (I think Blackheath) managed to do 3 legs of 2.7 miles in under 40 minutes, which is bananas.
Again, I would never NEVER have imagined 2 years ago that I'd be doing this sort of thing. So far outside my comfort zone. Meeting new people, new places, new things. And I'm forever grateful I took the plunge. It's been night and day for my mental health.
I'm not here to preach at anyone - we're all different. But perhaps if you struggle aswell you might get something from my inane ramblings that's useful to you. 😊
