Go to shop for snax, notice horrific transphobia on the newspaper front pages.
Buy snax, go to till. Older cashier lady gives a big smile and calls me "love" and "sweetheart" the whole time we're chatting as she's pricing my stuffs.
The media wants to make it look like everyone hates us. The truth is most ppl are actually just fine with trans ppl existing and getting on with our lives.
Don't believe the lies.
Thanks for this. My trans daughter is a British citizen but has lived with us in France since childhood. She doesn't want to visit the UK because of the image propagated by the media, government and supreme court. We tell her she probably wouldn't experience this from ordinary Brits (who are nice, by and large, and in any case too polite to actually say anything) - but she is still resistant.
@GeofCox there are some bits of the country that are worse, so I'd say be careful but it's not a complete no-go zone for trans people.
@therivercrow this... The difference between the real and the newspapers and online is huge.
Took my son to the doctors yesterday. You know, the NHS ones, the "famously" transphobic ones. The doctor referred to me as his mum without comment or question.
Did the repair cafe at the weekend. Overhear two old ladies chatting away at the tea stand. "She couldn't fix it, but she was really clear explaining why" I recognize one as the owner of an iron I just condemned.
@emily_s yeah, my NHS docs were great about my name change and changing my gender marker, even without having gone through the NHS trans waiting list. And, generally, people are just pretty chill about it, apart from a few weirdos. The media does love to fearmonger though.
