honestly i hope google killing search in favor of slop, err i mean AI, just kills their empire. i know it probably won't, but i can dream. this is the kind of absurd move that needs punishment
@eniko in a functioning economy a company making their services shit is ripe to have their market taken from them. However we live in an age of monopolies with enough money to buy any competitor and decision makers that are completely delusional so 🤷
@eniko In the mean time, fun fact for those otherwise stuck in this hell:
Custom search engine set to https: // www.google.com/search?udm=14&q=%s doesn't even show any difference with this latest bs.
@dalias If you can afford it (about $10 per month), just go for Kagi at that point. It's by far the best search engine around at this point, without any of the bullshit.
By default it triggers an LLM-based summary if you end your querie with a question mark. That's basically it. You can report pages or pictures as AI-generated, you can even downrank, uprank or block domains. It's been a breath of fresh air for me.
@sstendahl I was not impressed by the Kagi folks' attitudes about certain things, and I'm not really excited about helping something new destined to be bad replace something old that people already know is bad.
