Again and again Republican politicians who stand up to Trump get crushed.
Yesterday in Kentucky's 4th U.S. House District, Thomas Massie who fought for the Epstein victims was beaten decisively by Trump's new candidate in the primaries, thanks to Trump's infinite campaign budget.
Come November, the Republican party will have nothing but pure Trump loyalists willing to end democracy.
The midterms will be make or break for American democracy.
@randahl American democracy is already fatally broken. Hoping for something good to come out of midterms is wishful thinking.
@randahl . It’s the voters that keep voting for shitty candidates. How much BS are they going to take before this stops? The money is one thing, but the voters are the problem. Apparently they’re really easy to manipulate and control
@randahl I find a glimmer of hope in the possibility that the more trumpist the repub candidates become, the more the centrist voters should be repulsed and vote for a democrat. The US might be too far gone into fascism but it is my perhaps naive hope. Likewise the more vulgar trump acts and the more power he grabs and corruption he commits, should benefit democrats in the midterms where it isn’t just about turnout of Trumps malignant base.
@dannyreving I think you are right. But unfortunately that is also the reason Trump is trying to twist the arm of democracy. He knows he cannot win a fair game.
@randahl completely agree. My fear is total gerrymandering so all non-whites basically lose their vote and that the trump regime SA storm troopers target voting stations and make random arrest/disapperances soviet-style. We will have to wait and see how far down the road to fascism the US has moved and if the people will rise against tyranny.
American democracy was fundamentally broken by the 2024 election - giving a cultist and his cronies total power over all three branches of government, intent on implementing autocracy.

The 2026 midterms can only throw sand in the gears of the existing autocracy. It cannot, itself, revive democracy there.
