Question for my British audience - how do you not just glass every Brexiter you meet? Like, I watched an interview with one of these muppets and he's going on about "completing Brexit" - which is fucking funny cause aren't you so far out of Europe that people are begging to get back in? Anyway, when pressed on this fact by the host he says more or less that Europe didn't just let you keep all the good stuff so that means Brexit isn't complete. And this is Starmer's fault, somehow. Baffling shit.

@AnarchoNinaWrites Every news programme for 5 years had these motherfuckers on, talking out the back of their fucking necks. I’m basically traumatised by the whole thing and the whole Brexit discussion brings me out in hives.
@Nickiquote I'm just boggled - his position seemed to be that UK citizens should be allowed to travel, and work freely in Europe, and your products should be free from duties and tariffs in Europe. But simultaneously, Britain should have the right to exclude anyone they want from entering FROM Europe, or working in the UK, and also should be allowed to tariff protect non-competitive "traditional" businesses.
It felt fake? You know what I mean?
@AnarchoNinaWrites It was such a feature of the Brexit discourse that it had a name: cakeism, ie having your cake and eating it as a core belief. Obviously the EU will concede to all your demands. Obviously the Member States will prioritise all your interests over their own. Obviously this will happen because you are such an important special boy and they just want to keep you as a friend.
@Nickiquote lol, fucking WIILD. The pitch I heard was "America will give us a better deal that Europe ever did."
To which I replied "you do not know my people - if we have you over a barrel, we're gonna fuck you hard." Which btw? Is more or less what Trump did.
@Nickiquote Like, if I didn't know better he was setting the bar for "doing Brexit right" so high that it could not be achieved, ENTIRELY so he could say Stamer cocked up getting the impossible deal. And nothing more.
@AnarchoNinaWrites @Nickiquote All their statements are predicated on the basis that the perfect Brexit hasn’t yet been tried. The long-term issue for them is that there is no such thing. It was an ill-thought act of self-harm and the further the move from the EU the worse it becomes.
Pointing this out often demonstrates why pro-Brexiteers were often referred to as ‘gammons’ as their blood pressure rises and their face changes shade.
I think pro-Brexiteers are missing a trick and instead of trying to rationally argue the case, whenever a Brexiteer complains about the economy they just reply “It’s the will of the people.”
Fuck every single one of them in the eye forever.
@AnarchoNinaWrites This was definitely a feature of Farage etc after the Brexit vote.
Having been the dog that catches the car, and knowing that Brexit is an economic disaster, you just need to keep saying that any deal made is a betrayal of Brexit and that True Brexit Has Never Been Tried. True Brexit of course being an authoritarian kleptocratic ethnostate.
@AnarchoNinaWrites dreaming of a distant future where I can afford a glass
@sinvega ouch; fair play though. I laughed. But I felt bad for doing so.
This isn't my problem, and it isn't my country, but within about 2 and a half minutes of listening to this man talk, he became my mortal enemy and the mortal enemy of all that is true and rational. I don't know that I could have left that studio without assault charges.
And he didn't get into his no doubt MYRIAD of other odious views. This was just me watching someone bullshit freely about something they knew absolutely nothing about, for political advantage. Infuriating.
I mean, is the plan to invade Brussels? Because otw I don't really understand how you intend to get "yeah, we keep all the good parts of being in the EU but you can sod off and die regarding the responsibilities" accomplished.
Brexit is over. You're out. You're not in the top hand position in this negotiation because, wait for it, you left.
Great chat.
The Brits could join the EU again, why not, but I would be surprised, would all the exceptions and whatever else they previously got as little cherries on top of it for whatever hysteric raisins were still on the table.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@GNUmatic I mean this person seemed to more or less believe that doing Brexit meant British people were Europeans, but Europeans on British soil were not. You feel me? He wants to right to restrict who comes to the UK, to control what products can be sold there, but the EU to have no restrictions for British people.
It's not a realistic plan - you have to fight a war to get a deal that sweetheart traditionally.
