Software should be as small as it can be. Not as a gimmick, but as a discipline. The floppy disk is the measuring stick: 1.44 MB. If the software that ran entire businesses could fit in that space, then a modern, focused, single-purpose tool certainly can.

@lproven supporting old (commercial) platforms comes at a cost in terms of complexity. Firefox still runs on Windows 7 and this requires 3, sometimes 4 different code paths because Microsoft kept churning their APIs over the years. macOS is no better. On Linux you can use a single codepath if you want, but at the cost of leaving significant performance or power optimizations on the table. But at least it's possible.
@gabrielesvelto Just for the record, no, Firefox doesn't support Win7 and it hasn't for very nearly 3 years.
The last Firefox for Win7 was version 115 ESR.

It also runs on macOS 10.13, and I still use that almost every day
@lproven ESR115 is a fully supported version that goes through our entire test battery and gets timely uplifts of security fixes. With four supported branches (ESR115, ESR128, ESR140 and release) the effort that goes into uplifts is quite significant given the code sometimes needs to be manually adapted, which is why ESR115 will have to go soon. There's only so many people to handle that work.

There are a lot of perfectly serviceable Macs out there, including the one attached to my family TV, which can't run anything newer without hacks...
