Y'all, I've been paralyzed about something for a long time and I need to move past it. I really want to run a couple of very homegrown, self funded survey projects because I'm incredibly tired of seeing measures used in DevEx and not knowing any of the psychometric properties of those scales and how they compare to validated psychological inventories.
This is a passion project and I think it would be of service to you to see this kind of thing if you are in charge of internal DevEx surveys

I guess the thing that paralyzes me is I want to take the respondents privacy and data security very seriously for obvious reasons -- I debate whether I need demographics but it really really helps evaluate the impact of these measures for different groups -- and I have been thinking about building my own thing so it's all Catharsis-owned start to finish but as you can imagine as a social scientist I would just be mucking around with a LOT I've never done
My dream would be to assemble a small group of tech advisors who want to see this work happen to chat with, even just 1 call & follow-up emails. I am really really willing to roll up my sleeve and learn lots but I want to be self-aware about the unknown unknowns. I might just be overthinking risks, but creating a form of infrastructure for SAFE and TRUSTABLE open source studies even just surveys would be my dream. And I've seen first-hand how dev data is vultured over so ownership matters to me

@grimalkina@mastodon.social Also, as a very random side note the EU (as an organisation, and various governments within the EU) are currently funding open source infrastructure work. It gets in the weeds quickly, but it may be something of interest: even if you don't need/want to engage with it yourself, individuals can apply for support to help projects as long as the maintainers agree the work benefits the project.
Eventually I want to do bigger things, like think about deploying and testing interventions, but this is a place to start!

@grimalkina@mastodon.social Well, given the type of people who follow you it doesn't seem like it would be hard to get help on the technical implementing of anything that needs implementing. But is that actually the aspect you're feeling paralysed by, or is it more the getting funding etc side of things?
