Took a moment today to mend the beautiful wool jersey that has kept me warm and safe for thousands of miles on the bike, from the fields of central California to the wolds of Roman Britain, the valleys of Pennsylvania coal country, the broken roots of the Berlin Wall, and the high desert of Utah.
Later this month I head out to New Mexico to ride the faults that to this day are the site of scientific debate over the long term health effects of nuclear tests in the 1940s and 50s. This jersey will protect me from the harsh sun, carry essential supplies, and keep me warm under stars that indigenous people long ago carved into rock at the convergence of meteors, volcanoes, and tectonic plates.
