From a software engineering perspective one of the things I notice about many (most? all?) of the uses of "AI" are that they attempt to address the symptoms of things that most software has historically done very badly (unnecessary complexity, lack of attention to security, the overall approach of initially building incredibly-buggy software and then trying to improve it by testing or analysis rather than getting it right to beginn with) -- and at the same time reinforce all those problematic aspects (additional layers of complexity, MCP and other security disasters, halluciantion-based code). And I think that your "based in and reinforcing empire" perspective complements that. So as empire crumbles, there's the opportunity (and necessity) for a badly-needed restart.
