Ugh, something is freaking eating my lunch with network costs for media from Mastodon. And GCP media hosting via cloud buckets doesn't seem to have any great ways to filter that / figure out if it's from AI scrapers or something else (and do anything about it if I could figure that out).
Any #MastoAdmin folks fight with this already and have any suggestions?
@tim I know a lot of people hate Cloudflare, but putting CF in front of all of that has kept my costs under control.
@ai6yr in theory Google Cloud CDN was supposed to be as good / better but yeah I may have to try CF. I guess I could just stick it in front as a first shot. Thought first I'll see if the list of netblocks I just blocked does the trick.
@tim To be specific, I moved all my media to the Cloudflare S3 compatible storage, so it never ever goes in and out of AWS. If I had my druthers, I would be moving everything off AWS to tamp down the outgoing data costs, but it's a migration process...
