I was already not using rhe Bun runtime what with the project founder’s incessant heavy breathing over hustle and grind culture.
Them merging in a one million line, 5k+ commit AI rewrite from Zig to Rust? Makes me feel pretty good about my choice.
Look, you do a rewrite in Rust, you might care about type and memory safety. You do an AI rewrite in Rust, you might care about the appearance of caring about type and memory safety.
Do that in a major public-facing project, you just love YOLO.
@randomgeek the project claimed to have a performant i/o implementation, and i looked and found nothing there at all, and claiming "performance" without anything behind it is how i know someone is trying to manipulate their users and market to corps
@randomgeek i've been kind of wavering over forking v8 because it would let me use coffeescript for fun stuff but at that point if i'm not going for code compatibility i kinda just wanna do my own language
@hipsterelectron a whole new language would likely be more fun, especially for you.
@randomgeek yeah i have a language "spec" in mind but there are a few things to figure out regarding module visibility and function control flow
@randomgeek the rewrite because zig rejected "AI" is utterly intolerable to me. i literally do not like zig for several reasons and do not plan to learn or use it but this is exactly what i suspected would happen. hope this radicalizes zig into a better language
@hipsterelectron I like and appreciate much of the philosophy around Zig. The language itself has not clicked for me.
I lack the background for deep analysis so I must describe basic feel: too much like C to be fun but not enough like C to be useful.
