Why does everything have an app now?
And most importantly: Why are they often the only way to do a thing?
Why do I need an app to order bread for the next day?
Why do I need an app to use a washing mashine???
Like sure, give me a website, fine, I can accept that, but an app???

yours may have been a rhetorical question, so apologies for stating the obvious. On my GrapheneOS phone I install shortcuts to websites on my homepage instead of using apps... I'm being very mindful of tracking (even if Graphene puts a premium on privacy)
@_elena Yeah, using shortcuts to websites instead of apps is a good move, privacy wise.
On that note I'm curious: What setup did you end up with, with your GrapheneOS setup? Because one can get quite crazy with maximizing privacy in all regards, which make it less convenient though, so I'm curious how far you went ^^
@jana my GrapheneOS phone is a test second phone... I wanted to try it out for a while before deciding whether to switch to it from my iOS device.
I have 2 profiles: one for "Big Tech" where there's very little anyway and a main one that I use all the time without Google Play services.
I use it for web browsing + RSS mostly (over my iPhone) as it's more privacy-focused... and I love having a smartphone with no messaging apps (aside from DeltaChat) where I cannot be reached. If it makes sense

I bounced off of using multiple profiles pretty hard, because it turned out too inconvenient for me, in most cases.
I tried using a Private Space for Google Play stuff, for a while, but that also didn't really work out for me.
So I ended up throwing everything into the Main profile, in the end. It's not optimal, but it was the only way I could make it usable for me. Though it's also still mostly a secondary, testing device here. I've gotten so used to my iPhone over the years, that it's hard to figure our all necessary alternatives and not get frustrated, when something suddenly doesn't work.
