Oh thank God... I was genuinely worried the UK soft left couldn't find its ass with both hands in the dark. Someone resigned to make way for Burnham.

@AnarchoNinaWrites Do remember of course that British MPs can’t resign. What they *can* do is become Steward of the Chiltern Hundreds, a “Crown appointment” that renders them ineligible to remain an MP. #AbsolutelyNotAClownCountry
@considermycat I genuinely don't understand this - I am reading his resignation letter as we speak.
@AnarchoNinaWrites @considermycat It’s a procedural thing, but I can’t answer why - I assume it’s because there is nobody to resign to; no chief MP as it were.
Parliament is all a bit silly with their traditions (actual and made up) but it seems to enchant and absorb those who partake.
@spanghero @considermycat Wild. Sorta ceremonial, like having someone with a big mace open Parliament?
@AnarchoNinaWrites it would be hilarious if he lost to a Green though
@Nicovel0 Seems very unlikely... the trend lines say Reform would be the upset in Makerfield not green. Pretty sure it was like 60+% Leave too.
