So it's time for a new router 😪
Does anyone have a recommendation?
Our house has a weird setup - there are large spaces with no option for a cable link
The setup right now is a Orbi RBR850 mesh with 3 satellites but it's not up to the challenge in terms of (internal) bandwidth

One of my access points is whistling, and my family are starting to complain. I cannot hear it.

@furstenberg Nice! I've heard about them but they have soo many options... at least a solid hour or two of youtube reviews to go through all of them ☺️
@iamkonstantin have you looked into reusing other wired networks (if available), like cable TV (MoCA) or mains electricity (HomePlug)? Powerline was a bit iffy when I tried it 8 years or so ago, but maybe it’s better now? 🤷
@iamkonstantin I have been a very happy Ubiquity customer for a long time — they have mesh options as well but I don’t know how well they work.
If you want a ready to go option, you might be better off with Eero or the like.

Don’t think they mesh but developed in EU (and some manufactured too!)
@iamkonstantin @theseal @mikrotik Just FYI I've just recently switched from Ubiquiti to MikroTik and can answer questions if you have any. Their Wifi offers are very much cable based though.
Is your issue the *router* or the wifi speed? Because for routers (ie. routing and firewalling packets) these days I just recommend amd64 mini PCs. The prices went up with the AI bullshit and tariffs, but it's still a good long term investment for routing at full speed, particularly if you have more than say 300Mbps either direction.
When it comes to improving wifi, I recommend wired backhauls to commercial access points like TP-Link omada or similar. Mesh is an option too
