@stefanlindbohm That would work, yes. And think for example of how BC100 reimbursements work in Germany - DB has to trust you took the train you said you took. You would have to do the same here, somehow.

@jon The somehow is what I’m thinking needs a concrete proposal. That would make it a lot more likely that an MEP will get it through, no?
@stefanlindbohm Would you not then need UIC Merits to be open source? 🤪 But yes, we need a way.
@jon The regulation from February/March whenever it was is already there to mandate all this data to be enforcably open in 2029 at the latest. So that part should be possible to rely on already!
@stefanlindbohm And bearing in mind it's going to take at least 12 months to get this agreed, and then at least 12 months to implement, we're at 2029 already...
@jon @stefanlindbohm does this also mean the Paris RER or metro ticket is going to need to be sold as part of the same transaction if you're crossing Paris ?
@quixoticgeek @stefanlindbohm Metro, no. RER, that's the big one... Is RER "railway services on standalone networks intended only for the operation of
urban or suburban railway services"? I would argue it is not.
@jon @stefanlindbohm if not. Then anything that goes via Paris isn't going to be possible as a single ticket transaction. Has anyone involved in writing this ever used an international train ?
@quixoticgeek @jon Timetables include a connection path between all Paris stations with a given minimum time. So a late train to one station making you miss the departure from another would apply for sure.
Question is what happens if you follow the connecting time across Paris but the RER itself gets you delayed - not sure what happens today if you do this on a through-ticket?
@stefanlindbohm @quixoticgeek SNCF would simply put you on the next one, but I think they would not give you delay compensation
@jon @stefanlindbohm same question for Madrid. HS trains come in from Barcelona to Atocha, trains to Vigo go from a station across town...
@quixoticgeek @stefanlindbohm But Cercanias is obviously less separate than RER
