This is a great piece about universality and means testing.

I am trying to imagine how to craft a resilient culture that would not continue the inequality pressures and predation on the people in need. Could a society be more robust against corruption and exploitation?

@scottsantens In Mexico, any person over 65 receives a state pension, with a recent exception so that women can receive it at 60, in recognition of unpaid care labour. It is now engraved in the constitution.
The neoliberal economists and commentocrats are raging since implementation. They claim it is unsustainable, somehow clientelist!, and unfair: the lame goto argument to block debate, appealing to emotion.
It has proven to be cheap to run, immensely popular and empowering for the elderly

Absolutely, universality is the best approach for any supports. I used to be involved in a small church group that worshipped in a junior high school. We made sure the school office was provided a steady supply of ‘emergency’ food for kids that didn’t have enough, but

@scottsantens Yes, means testing means you have to have more cops to do the means testing. Make Elon pay millions more in taxes and give him a little bit back in UBI.
