Welp, *finally* off to see my opthalmologist for a post-cataract surgery exam and almost certainly for new prescription glasses! A wallet-lightening experience is expected, but the quality of life improvement from being able to see clearly again will make it entirely worthwhile.

@cstross Good to hear!
@cstross Good luck. True it is likely to be expensive. My way of mitigating this is by reusing two pairs of frames and just getting new lenses ....
@SeEaldaEoh Shockingly cheap, it turns out I don't need fancy varifocals any more!
@cstross I haven't yet found a copy of The Regicide Report, but I believe there was a directive from Number 10 to update the ophthalmology charts to include symbols intended for the per-literate under the PM's "Seeing is Believing" programme. They featured an ornate border and early results were largely promising with some reports of corrected vision as good as 20/10 and a general sentiment that patients gave quicker and more helpful feedback when checking subjective, patient-reported vision quality. Eventually, there was to be a wider roll-out as general posters, but I can't seem to locate any specifics on the specific governmental messaging new to that programme.
Best wishes, PosterCollector8262
@cstross I hope it goes well. Good luck.
Good luck with that! Wishing you all the best.
