I genuinely believe that Patsy Cline was the second-greatest vocalist of the 20th century. (There is no Ella but Ella.)
When I teach young'uns jazz, I use this song. Why? Listen once, the whole thing. Listen twice, her amazing voice. Listen thrice, that piano, which never plays the melody, only dances over and under and around it.
When you understand how amazing that it is, you're ready for jazz chapter one.
And Willie Nelson was a great jazz composer.
@johntimaeus I am not sure he wrote it in that mode. :)
I would need to deep dive to confirm, but it actually tracks with a lot of the other things he wrote. The slow walk down minor7 chords, root flat minor to root major bridge.
Just from a stupid bass player standpoint, it's Willie.
