It’s hard to blame Marcia for stepping back and withholding their considerable talents from the fediverse. She has done a great amount of work to make the fediverse better, with little reward. However, others are stepping up, struggling to make a Black fediverse....

@rwg OK, it is taking way too long for me to stick these random quotes together to recreate the whole book. I mean, I like puzzles as much as the next geek, but this is ridiculous.
Book ordered from my favourite indie bookstore, should arrive in a couple of weeks.
@Plumbert heh, I wondered if anyone would try to reconstruct the book from the quotes!
@rwg Yeah, it's really hard to think about how badly the early fediverse has messed this up.
I'd like to believe things have improved, although it is not up to me to judge. But even if they did, how do we get people who have been driven away to give the fediverse another chance, especially now that Blacksky has done so much work to make itself independent from Bluesky the company?
@stefan I think the best course now is to foster consensual bridging between projects like Blacksky and nodes on the ActivityPub fediverse and to greatly improve moderation practices in all areas.
@rwg Yeah, this is along the lines of what I've been thinking, that it would be great to see more progress for interop.
I tried to revive the conversation around natively supporting ActivityPub on Blacksky's GitHub:

I mean, the bridge is great, if you can get people to opt-in. The bot only works if the account you want to invite has DMs open, and most of the accounts I've cared about don't.
Reaching out myself just feels too dorky, and I see most people doing it just getting ignored.
I know there's some big update about to be announced for the project, so we'll see, maybe some of this will be addressed.
