In light of this Hantavirus BS, there should be a sketch about two people describing their own unique COVID experiences where one person is like "Yeah, I know! I didn't even go within 6 feet of a stranger until I was double vaxxed." and the other is like I wasn't able to hit the ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese until the family reunion in the summer of 2020."

When I was younger I worked in a forensic laboratory and was a certified hazmat handler. I also use P100 half-mask respirators on home improvement projects. So when COVID happened, wearing a mask was no biggy. Just raise your shields and do what you need to do.
People act like masks are killjoys but it hasn’t stopped us from traveling at all. It’s just like wearing shoes, no need to freak out. Also nice to never get sick for 6 years straight.
@KanaMauna Agreed! It's a minor "inconvenience" with potentially major benefits. I have no problem with it.
I know a few people who have Long Covid and I'll take the incovenience.
@Alice I am shocked by my pupils’ responses to the hantavirus news story. They vary between “the people on that ship should be shot” to “I’ve never had a vaccination and I’m never having one”. Rarely shocked by what kids say any more but this topic clearly needs some gentle, persistent education.
This is seriously a very real thing. @KevBot was the designated person who would mask and glove up to stand in a line at Trader Joe's to get groceries for a month, so when I FINALLY went out for a drive to get my first antibody test, I was shocked to see people wandering about as if NOTHING was going on.
@Alice @KevBot
You two were reacting appropriately to a poorly understood risk. People were dying. Long Covid wasn’t understood.
People still aren’t taking reasonable precautions in light of long covid. It seems to negatively affect the immune system and brain function, can lead to stroke, and even cancers.
Most places have very low levels right now, but I always have my eye on the wastewater levels chart to know when I want to mask up or avoid going out.
In case you're wondering...I was the former.
I think you mean the former?
@jonhendry OMG I initially had the ball pit person first and switched it. Totally my fault. Definitely the former! Thanks for calling attention to that. I'll go edit it!
This isn't even a joke. Around early 2021, Kev and I would go out for walks and we would seriously try to cross the street whenever anyone was approaching and there was a time when Kev had gotten both vaccinations but I had only gotten one and was waiting on my second and we encountered a woman having a SPITTY phone call on the street unmasked and I walked into the street to avoid her and shouted "SOME OF US AREN'T FULLY VAXXED YET!"
In retrospect, it's kind of funny how concerned I was, but we didn't have the data yet so F me for trying to be responsible.
@Alice Same here. I did not publicly chastise people, but I did rapidly make space. Last year, I tipped my mask up on a long flight to sip a drink — and got Covid for the first time, despite being doubly vaxed every year or sooner. I did that again at the gym a month ago and caught a Rino virus that just won’t quit. 🤦
@meltedcheese @Alice my doctor told me that the longer you wear that mask the harder it becomes for your body‘s immune system to fight off bacteria and viruses which is its job.
when you’re sick: wear a mask
When you’re not sick: don’t wear a mask because it weakens the defense systems of your own body.
It makes sense and I experienced it first hand after taking ‚er off after the long 2020 summer. Instant cold.
If your auto-immune system isn’t working properly ignore me! ❤️
@Alice me, too… I'm still hiding
I regret NOTHING about my approach to people who refuse to take this shit seriously.
