A lot of "there's a war coming' preparation in TV shows here in the Netherlands, including the Queen becoming a reservist in the army.
I was in rural Illinois and Indiana this past week, diesel was $7 in both places. I have never seen diesel this expensive.
It also seemed like about half the fields hadn't been plowed yet.
@BlackAzizAnansi It feels like I'm seeing more vehicles parked close to the road with "For Sale" signs on them than usual.
Not the present economic cycle, but one of the more left-field things that brought the impact of 2010s austerity home for me was c. 2017, my lawnmower wore out, and I couldn't afford a like-for-like replacement and had to downgrade to a lower-spec model.

@BlackAzizAnansi I got a bottle of juice from Ocean Spray yesterday that legit had the words "Surprisingly Affordable!" on the label.
It was $2.50, and I was cautious as to why. It has a quarter of the sugar of their standard products.
(The silly part is that I actually really like it and wonder now why we ever sold such sugary juices)
