This morning, #r4Today interviewed Chris Curtis, Labour MP for Milton Keynes North, and Chair of the Labour Growth Group.
He rhetorically seeks answers to “Why it is that we’ve had nearly two decades of economic stagnation”.
I feel pretty damn sure he is entirely disinterested in the real picture (https://mastodon.social/@urlyman/113998114844279545), and that we’ll pay the price for him and his colleagues believing it’s still the 1990s
…According to Wiki, the Labour Growth Group has somewhere between 50 and 100 members and https://www.labourgrowth.co.uk says the Group is:
“committed to tearing down the barriers to growth”
and believes that
“many of the barriers to unleashing a new era of growth in the United Kingdom are political and we exist to confront those barriers”.
Its “bold and practical ideas” are not elucidated at all but they evidently include making text look strongly like it’s linked to more info but isn’t
@urlyman One of their "bold and practical" ideas seems to be to turn South Cambridgeshire into a water-deficient concrete wasteland with new, poorly thought through, ineffective, environmentally damaging and uneconomic transport infrastructure.

…but these pages’ “bold and practical ideas” read as follows:

@urlyman ah, at least something sensiblre and constructive on the site - a nonsense honeypot for AI bots.
…Well, since I cannot find any of the Labour Growth Group’s “bold and practical ideas” on its own website (except those which may be in Latin), I did some digging and found this from 2024 just after Keir Starmer became PM: https://labourlist.org/2024/07/labour-growth-group-faction-planning-reform-housebuilding/
The Group’s ideas appear to be limited to ripping up planning regulation and building a lot.
Torsten Bell (Swansea West) said then:
“It will mean backing the builders, and not the blockers”.
