To counter the grumpy ramble:
I saw the first barn swallows checking out my barn today! And the Purple Martin house is nearly full as of yesterday. And it's so nice to have all the native sparrows back, rather than just the invasive house sparrows. And there is a Canada goose nesting on the closest pond to the barn, which I'm sure will result in hilarious situations once those goslings hatch. And! I've heard a grouse thumping away in the woods several times this week. Yay, birds!
@sundogplanets reminds me of the time that a wild turkey made its way into my henhouse... wasn't quite sure what was going on. I guess it was just too good in there.
@sundogplanets When we were kids, we lived in an old house near a 300-acre wood. A couple of times, we heard a crash, went to look, and it was a ruffed grouse that had flown right through a window. But that was a long time ago and I don't think there are any grouse there anymore.
