I don’t know. Thanks to the SCOTUS, I’m inclined to think we’re well beyond the point in *most* US electoral districts where winning an election now flags you as *disqualified* to represent your constituents. It will take some new form of direct democracy with a different form of federalism to create version 3.0 democracy and block generations of authoritarian rule by billionaire technocrats and racist demagogues.

For multiple reasons we shouldn’t wait for the press or military to acknowledge that our current representative democracy is a sham. First, they’re institutionally designed to mesh with the old broken system and will need to be led out of it.
Second, we need to start practicing self-rule, learning the ropes, working out the kinks, even if at first there’s not a lot of real power exercised. Others are in a much better position to speak to this than I am. But I do want to learn and participate.
This is me trying to be upbeat and hopeful, by the way. 😆
Thanks for that clarification! When we're down in a deep, dark hole (as all of us are now, whether we know it or not) we sound like Beelzebub belching smoke from a volcano, or, at best, like Marvin the insufferably neurotic robot. But there is reason to be upbeat and hopeful, as you say.
Borrowing from a "Pogo" cartoon, "we're surrounded by insurmountable opportunities". 🥴
@oldclumsy_nowmad I like “insurmountable opportunities.” Eventually they’ll overcome us no matter how we resist or try to disbelieve.
But the partisans on the other side (super-rich? or whatever) are thinking the same way. They're sure they'll be overcome no matter how they resist. (I think.)
The joke's on all us naked little monkeys, isn't it?
@oldclumsy_nowmad sure. I’m not even concerned that much about the actual outcome. Time (if it’s real at all, which is contested) is a flow marked by all things being impermanent. Outcomes are arbitrary since nothing any of us do will last. I just want us to act with care for each other while we have our time here. That’s what dignity means, irrespective of “winning” which is kind of an illusion, just a story.
