Thinking about when my mom died and my dad wrote her obituary for the paper and it seriously read like an advertisement for his business.
The only thing missing was a "mention this ad and get 10% off" and a little border with dashed lines and a scissors graphic to show you where to cut out your coupon.
@Alice It's a pity your dad never met my mom. When my dad died, she tried to put an ad in the newspaper, saying "Robert's dead." She knew that they charged by the word. Anyway, the got back to her and explained that they couldn't run the ad. Something to do with a 5-word minimum. She wrote back and added "suit for sale."

Unfortunately, I’m not even kidding. It kind of read like this:
Carol McKay, beloved wife of Kyle McKay and loving mother of Alice McKay, passed away last Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. Prior to that, she worked at McKay's located in Anytown USA on the corner of Main St and Center Ave. They'll be closed on Sunday for the memorial service but will reopen bright and early on Monday morning for all of your McKay's needs!
