@MichaelWhelan THAT PAINTING made such an impression on my editor at Ace that when I handed her a novel that was an explicit tribute to "Friday" in 2007 ("Saturn's Children") she briefed the art director to commission a homage to your painting.
Unfortunately what they horked up was this … (I was not amused!)

I’ve read this too…but very close to publication date and Charlie hadn’t died.

I consider the transportation packaging scene from this book an exercise in distress tolerance work for me.
Well.. that certainly is of the cover arts that have been cover arted.
@cstross @MichaelWhelan Friday was the only Heinlein I was ever able to read. Yes, it was sexist, but at least it was an early Strong Female Protagonist example that I rarely saw anyone other than Anne McCaffrey writing.
@linuxandyarn @cstross @MichaelWhelan YES EXACTLY. Heinlein was a freak and a creep in his writing - but he didn't look *down* on women, if that makes sense.
Maybe I'm misremembering, it's been many many years.
@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk @linuxandyarn @MichaelWhelan Heinlein is at best a curate's egg—"good in parts" (bad in others). I re-read "Glory Road" recently with a tribute in mind but time has not been kind to it and the Suck Fairy has paid it a visit in the past 20 years.
