Meta just removed end-to-end encryption from Instagram.
Post
@Tutanota and yet people will still use it. convenience wins every time smh
@Tutanota and people wonder why everyone's moving to Signal. this stuff is why lol
@Tutanota not surprised tbh. every few months another privacy rollback over there. at this point you kind of have to assume they will eventually remove everything
@Tutanota I know this is a throwaway comment but I will say it anyway. Was an early adopter of FB, now I can't stand to even look at it. Never used IG, never will. No need for loops, shorts, whatever.
@Tutanota everyone, just use Delta Chat for encrypted private chatting, using Instagram for that was never a good idea anyways...
@Tutanota any difference? idk
@Tutanota I never trusted Meta, or specifically Instagram, to have encryption that actually protected users anyway. Companies like that protect themselves from liability, but they don't protect users.
@Tutanota is Whatsapp coming next?
@Tutanota tbh I'm more surprised it was there in the first place
@Tutanota I can feel the safety 🛟
@Tutanota "BMW removes turn signals"
@Tutanota Not surprised at all. Meta and privacy rarely stay in the same sentence for long. I’m just glad the Fediverse is there as a healthier alternative.
@Tutanota Curiously, gmail sort of supports end to end encryption (excluding subject lines). The steps to enable it are:
(1) Install gpg if you haven't already.
(2) Install an email client that supports GPG/PGP and IMAP
(3) Use IMAP to connect to gmail
and the really, really hard part:
(4) get your contacts to use GPG as well.
@Tutanota Only a dead billionaire is a good billionaire.
