I would agree here, definitely not all data centres are bad and some are just necessary sometimes. But definitely not all data centres. Same with cars, really, or aviation.
It does, however, highlight the importance of not putting all your eggs in one basket, and at least having some services hosted elsewhere. Oh, and backups. Always backups.
I've written a number of posts and threads about the giant AI datacentres and how we shouldn't be building them etc... so you'd think that the news that a datacentre in Almere, NL, being on fire would be a moment for schadenfreude at least.
Alas, it's actually highlighting the importance of some datacentres.
The fire looks like it's in the power supply area, and reports are that the servers are all undamaged, just powered off. Which is good news.
