I was exposed to an Android 15 phone, and it was the most "damn, you live like this" experience I've ever had since the time I had to use Windows 10 after more than 15 years of desktop Linux.
I had to look "how to turn off the phone" in the help, because long press on the power button now brings up the chatbot assistant, and there's no affordance in the UI that lets me know I have two swipe the screen twice to access the quick settings.
My last Android phone was Android 2 or 3 on a Samsung device, so it's been over 15 years. With iOS going to liquid ass, and Android being this opaque, I am wondering what options are left…
I really, *really* don't want to get a Linux phone. I want a phone that works, not working on my phone.
@ebassi fwiw my fairphone is stock android 15 and it improved to personal usability immediately upon deleting the Google app. got my power button back too.
I have Android and not an alternate OS (Fairphone actively supports and funds e/os) cos i've got commercial apps to run from the Play store to do my shit, and i could faff about with compatibility or i could not do that. i get enough of that using Linux.
@ebassi @davidgerard Did you migrate from a google based device? If so, tips on data migration?
