@hipsterelectron are there any such things as linux-compatible microkernels?
@lanodan @hipsterelectron I mean Windows and MacOS just ..... run Linux
@freya doubtful. linux is a huge API surface though
@hipsterelectron @freya we don't need all of it though right? just enough to boot emacs on stallman's geriatric thinkpad
@aeva @freya yeah posix is fine https://social.highenergymagic.net/@freya/116536097819505234 i think microkernels are a huge opportunity to develop more powerful userspace APIs is all
@hipsterelectron @freya It's been one of my vaporware/todos for a long time...
@hipsterelectron @freya Where I think I would get this right (if I actually had time to do it) where others have failed is that the core architecture for what runs in microkernelspace is designed around the minimum primitives on which one can implement POSIX efficiently. Rather than some grandiose NIH'd new thing with POSIX emulation layer as an afterthought.
@hipsterelectron the problem that I see is that if someone goes off and does a whole new mobile OS or whatever, welp, fuck, there goes accessibility. maybe people need to put more effort into blackberry 10, I amn't seeing any LPEs or weird issues with that one...
